“I don’t consider myself someone who takes a particular political side or deals heavily in activism, however, my art does start at a level of social commentary and work itself up to confrontational reflection. My goal is to remove comfort from the equation, and I achieve that by aligning my observations of the world with my materials and mixed-media/collage processes. My canvases are usually cheap commodities: Found cardboard, craft store stretched cotton. I combine these with bold marks in a fluid medium and then adorn my creations with various items, including newspaper clippings, wrappers, money, animal pelts, and an assortment of thrifted finds.
I enjoy adding little niche references that only people who really pay attention get. I’m not necessarily an expressionist, but I’m not all about figure work either. I operate somewhere in the middle, and what I paint is truly dependent on what needs to be said that day. That being said, I create my work not to necessarily force a particular viewpoint, but to draw attention to the hilarity that is life.”
